Road Trips, Twins (not mine), moving and interviews

Yeah, life has been really crazy lately. I’ve been meaning to drop by and leave a quick message but I’ve been really busy and we don’t have internet at the new house yet. We’ve had some minor bumps over the last couple weeks (Cayse’s Jeep lost bladder control, We moved somewhat spontaneously, etc) but we are doing well. We are really enjoying the new house a lot. Hopefully we’ll get the internet set up soon and will get things organized enough to take some pictures.

Anyhow, I just wanted to leave a quick post saying we are still here. I’ve got to get back to work refreshing myself on an application I wrote so I can do a short presentation on it tomorrow morning. I am interviewing for that permanent position most of you have heard about. I’m a little nervous cause about half an hour ago our group meeting was converted from a group meeting into a “lets all go watch Andrew’s interview” meeting. I know they are all there for support but having an interview in front of a bunch of coworkers just might be more stressful than interviewing with strangers… Oh well, I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Hope to have something more interesting to tell/show shortly. Oh yeah, we got the new grill together this weekend and it is SWEEEET.

Iron Man Rocks!

Yeah, that is all. Go see it and stick around til after the credits finish.

Home Sweet Home

Ok, well we won’t get into that we still aren’t terribly happy about calling this our home at this point.

Cayse is home after a big of a fiasco at the hospital. While I was gone the attendants weren’t very good about explaining what they were doing and how it was helping towards their goal of getting Cayse home. I came back and Cayse was under the impression that they were kicking her out and was worried she wasn’t ready. We got home at about 3:30 or so yesterday after she’d been off her IV for a while and was more awake. We watched some TV and Dan came by to take a break from his last engineering final take home (3 question take home final that takes a week to finish…everybody is having a rough weekend). She got a decent amount of sleep and we’ve figured out a medication schedule.

I’m staying home today to make sure she’s settled and handling the medication ok (and get some much needed rest). I’ll be going back to work tomorrow though so if anybody wants to call and say hi it would probably be particularly welcome while I’m not around. We have several good friends who have said they’ll be around to hang out with her during the day so hopefully she’ll have company most of the time and can just rest up when people aren’t here.

Anyhow, thanks for everybody’s support.

Hospital Update

Cayse’s day was a little up and down but she’s still hanging in there. We had lots of visitors and she was able to have a fair amount of fun all things considered. We also discovered the hospital has wireless internet (I am posting from her bedside) and were able to use Skype to talk to and see her family in Wenatchee so that helped as well. Hopefully she’ll be able to get some decent rest tonight and we can get her ready to go home tomorrow.

Surgery Went Well

Cayse’s shoulder surgery went well and the surgeon was very happy with it. She was in a lot of pain pretty much all day, but they seem to have that better under control. I stuck around until she started dozing off and then I came home to get some sleep and so I wouldn’t wake her up making noise.

The hospital staff have all been great although Cayse has told many people about the intern that tried to set her IV as well as the fact that when we first got there everyone (including all the papers) kept saying they were going to work on her right shoulder. One of the first things she said when she came out was “at least they did the (correct) one”. Good to see her back to spunky self. :P

So yeah, she’s in pain but is rapidly getting it under control. We had lots of calls and visitors to wish her well so thank you to everyone for that. I’m going to try and get some sleep so I can go back early in the morning.

Averting the next environmental crisis

So the current environmental crisis is energy, according to many the next will be a lack of pure water. This inventor seems to have already solved the problem even though it hasn’t hit home here in America.

Possible cure for Alzheimer’s

I came across an interesting article today about a relatively new treatment for Alzheimer’s. Click through to check it out.

Happy Birthday to me!

Ok, so it is 2 days later but that’s ok. I had a good birthday with good gifts, good food and good friends. Here is a picture of the cake Cayse baked me.

Wishlist

Before I start I want to say thanks to everybody for all your help with wedding stuff. It has helped Cayse and I out a lot and we really appreciate it. I only write this because I’ve been asked what I want for my birthday and I figure it’s better to put this up for people who really want to send something than make them rack their brains trying to figure out what I would like. Please don’t feel like I expect presents. I just never can think of anything on the spot so I’m going to add to this post as I think of stuff. I’ll also try to find links to what I’m talking about to clarify and hopefully make things easier should to feel the urge to spoil me with a gift. So in no particular order… Other than maybe the first one…

Bronco Tailgate Shell – This really isn’t worth the money but I can’t find a used tailgate without rust. Well… I did but the shop sold it out from under me while I was driving to Spokane to get it. Anyhow, not expecting this at all but you never know. If anybody sees one for sale or knows somebody parting out a Bronco please let me know. Otherwise I’ll have to figure out a way to repair mine or something…

Computer Stuff

CRX Stuff (1987 Honda CRX Si)

Bronco/Offroad Stuff (Ask Matt about any of this stuff before ordering, he knows more about it than I do)

Books

If you think of something not on this list please feel free to go for it. The stuff other people think of that I don’t is even more fun for me than the stuff I know I want. Money is always appreciated as well. I promise it will go to a good and appropriate cause and I will write in the blog about what I spent it on. Anyhow, now that I feel like a beggar I’m going to go to bed. Take care.

Life Upgrades

Every once in a while you have to do the fun thing instead of the responsible thing. This month I was due for some upgrades.

I picked up a pretty nice stainless steel, 4 burner grill on a 50% off discount. Well, in actuality I paid for it an Matt picked it up for me since the only store I could find it in stock was up in his neck of the woods. We’ve been intending on making a trip over to visit the homeland once the snow thawed so we’ll be picking that up then.
Grill
I had also been looking around at computer upgrades for quite a while. I came to the conclusion that it was probably time to spring for a new laptop since the price difference seemed worth it. In the process of waiting out a good deal I also decided it was probably worth springing for one that should last me quite a while. I found a deal that was really good but was a lot more than I needed and was more money than I figured I should spend. Over the course of a week that I considered it the deal just kept getting better. I finally sprung for the following after Toshiba announced the death of HD-DVD, the price dropped another $150, included free shipping and I was approved for 12 months no interest and no payments.
VaioFZ180E

It is a Sony Vaio FZ180E and is a great machine. It is pretty darn future proof (fast processor, 4GB max ram, 200GB hard drive, HDMI out and Blu-Ray read/write…yes, write). To many that probably means nothing but basically it has about all the features that you could really expect from a notebook. It should definitely last me several years (I also got a 2 year full coverage, including accidental damage, warranty) and will at least last me until I can afford a laptop without trouble.

So those are our current upgrades. A move is currently in the works as well. As I’ve talked to a few of you about, one of my good work friends is moving to Olympia and has offered to rent us his house for a very reasonable amount. More on that later but if you are really curious (nosey) you can check out the “Darrell’s House” album in the gallery.
